Peter Mowbray | Senior – Audit & Assurance
Moving office to be closer to the things I enjoy
What’s your Menzies story?
I joined Menzies at the age of 18, having no previous accounting knowledge or experience.
I began my career through a 3-year training apprenticeship to complete my AAT qualification and gain a professional diploma in accounting. This opened the opportunity to complete an additional 3-year training agreement to study towards my ACA and become a Chartered Accountant.
I am currently an Audit Senior, working as part of a larger team to complete audits for several different businesses. My role allows me to see the entire process of an audit from planning through to completion and sign off for a range of different companies.
It also allows me to assist in the training and development of our newer trainees and provide them support through the start of their career. I have also been out to local schools with colleagues to share my experiences and opportunities with students who show an interest in the industry.
What makes your Menzies story unique?
Once qualified, I decided I wanted to move location to spend more time around family, friends and indulging in my passion for sailing and teaching.
As a sailing and powerboat instructor, I had always enjoyed time out on the water and through relocating office to our South Coast office in Solent, it has opened to door for me to do even more of what I love!
I was initially concerned whether there would be the opportunity for me to make the transition, but Menzies worked with me to make this as seamless as possible. With this and the healthy work-life balance culture encouraged at Menzies, I have been able to spend more time with family, friends and pursuing my sailing.
What do you love about working at Menzies?
My favourite aspect of working at Menzies is the people I have met and worked with, both in terms of colleagues and clients.
Since the moment I joined I have been supported by a network of colleagues from other trainees to my managers and the Firm’s partners. They have provided me constant guidance allowing me to learn my role, become a valued member of the team, and genuinely enjoy coming to work. When I decided to move office, I received great support from all around, making the transition as easy as possible.
In addition to this, I have gained exposure to several different businesses from a wide variety of different industries and sectors. I have been able to meet many interesting and knowledgeable people, learning about their company, how they operate and how I could help to add value.
