A day in the life of an Audit Senior

HONOR, AUDIT SENIOR

I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2020 after achieving a First in Accounting with Finance. I was looking for a role where I could work in an accounting firm whilst studying towards the ACA qualification and joined in the September after graduating. Menzies were local to me who offered this, and they stood out to me during my research and application process.

What stood out to you about Menzies?

Throughout the application process and specifically the interview I was drawn to the friendly environment at Menzies. During the interview there was a real focus on career progression and studying for the ACA qualification, which I felt would help me achieve my goals.

A day in the life of an Audit Senior

As an Audit Senior, I usually start my day between 8:30am and 9:00am, the flexible working policy means this can vary. I start my day by looking at the planner to see what audit I am booked to and then making a list of things I need to accomplish during the day. If I am not working on an audit this is usually due to studying at our training provider.

I spend most of my day working through audit testing documents, requesting further information, and communicating directly with clients to resolve any queries we may have. This will depend on the clients’ preferences, but this will either be from the client’s site or our office (or from home). There is also the opportunity to mentor new colleagues and help with training.

What are some highlights from your time at Menzies?

The highlight for me as an Audit Senior, has been meeting a new group of people with the same goals. This aspect is really motivating and helped me get through the exams by being able to work with fellow graduates, and other team members who had been through the same process.
