Menzies CSR update – 2020/21

For many years, we have provided funding through the Menzies Charitable Foundation to help our communities by making donations to worthwhile causes. Our policy has always been to support and to fund projects that result in tangible outcomes and real benefits to the people in our communities.

Here follows a summary of what we’ve managed to achieve and the wonderful efforts our staff have gone to.

For Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan is our firmwide charity. They provide support and specialist healthcare to cancer suffers and their families. Helping people through their cancer journey by campaigning for better cancer care, providing emotional support, tools and inspiration.

Fundraising events:

  • 10km Asics run
  • Heathrow fun run
  • Cardiff walk
  • Solent walk

For East to West

East to West is a local charity based in Egham that we have supported over the past 3 years. They have been bringing hope to young lives all across Surrey and Berkshire. Currently supporting 875 local children, young people and their families struggling with difficult and damaging issues.

For Younger People with Dementia

Younger People with Dementia is our Heathrow office charity of the 21/22 year.

They provide care and support to those diagnosed with young onset dementia, a progressive and life limiting illness which affects adults between the ages of 30-64. The charity sets up age appropriate workshops across East and West Berkshire, helping them to live better with dementia, reducing isolation and loneliness by helping them maintain an active social life.

  • 20km Egham to Windsor walk

For MidasPlus

Based in Staines, Midasplus helps local needy groups and individuals in the North Surrey Borders, South Middlesex and East Berkshire. Run by local volunteers they set up local fundraising events and work with local companies to make sure that all money donated can be directed to those in need.

For the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice

The Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a charity that cares for over 2,000 patients and their carers and families every year. They specialise in delivering holistic care for patients with progressive advanced conditions that are life limiting. Delivering this care within the community in patient homes, care and nursing homes and through its in-patient ward in the hospice.

  • £2,000 donation

For The Grace Dear Trust

The Grace Dear Trust is a mental health charity, helping to create a support network and raise awareness amongst school children. Giving support to those who need it, providing a safe environment so that young people feel comfortable to speak up. They fund seminars in schools, helping young people understand the importance of mental well-being.

Fundraising events:

  • Box Hill climb: Our very own Megan Cross, climbed the equivalent height of Mount Everest, walking up Box Hill 40 times in under 24 hours – successfully raising over £6,000.

For MindOut

MindOut is a mental health service run by and for the LGBTQ community. Working to improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ communities to make mental health a wider community concern.

Fundraising events:

  • Menzies Wear a Rainbow Day: In June we had a firmwide wear a rainbow day, where we encouraged our staff to wear as many colours of the rainbow to work as possible.

For Brain Tumour Research

Brain Tumour Research is a charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours, campaigning to increase investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year. They continue to fundraise to create a network of sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

For Comic Relief

Comic Relief aims to drive positive change through the power of entertainment, the money raised through Red Nose Day and Sport Relief is used to give grants to thousands of charities who work to help people who live incredibly tough lives.

For NHS Charities Together

NHS Charities Together is a national charity caring for the NHS, made up of 240 NHS charity members based within hospitals, ambulance, mental health and community health services across the UK. The funds raised by the trust enable the health service to go above and beyond what would otherwise be possible.

For Save the Children

Save the Children operate in over 100 countries, supporting children in order to transform their lives. Giving children access to food, medicine and education, creating a better world for the future.

Fundraising events:

  • Christmas Jumper Day

For All Night Café Camberley

Based in Camberley, the All Night Café is a project that aims to bridge gaps in the community, supporting those in situations were there is poverty or need. Their house in Camberley has become a place of refuge and has welcomed more than 500 homeless to date.
