Using my client facing experience to add value to our internal reporting

Once qualified, I took a brave decision to move away from client work and joined our internal finance team.

What’s your Menzies story?

I joined Menzies as a school leaver in 2016 and spent 4 years working in the Accounts and Advisory team in our Heathrow office. During my career at Menzies, I have completed AAT and ACA qualifications and was fully supported by my team throughout. My time in the Accounts and Advisory team taught me a huge amount about preparing financial statements, adding value to our clients’ businesses, and building relationships.

After becoming fully qualified in 2020, I was offered an exciting opportunity to transfer away from a client facing role and into our internal finance team. Fast forward to now, I have worked in our internal finance team since January 2021, and I am responsible for the Firm’s internal financial accounting and reporting.

I still use my previous experience in the Accounts team to add value to reporting, only now it is for our partners rather than for clients!

Why is your Menzies story different?

As I joined the firm as a school leaver, I am proud of achieving two professional qualifications by the age of 23. I have a unique role in the Firm, as someone with both client facing and support function experience. This allows me to empathise with different colleagues across the Firm and bring a different perspective. I am fortunate to work with almost everybody on some level and this is something I really enjoy as it means that my days are incredibly varied.

Why do you love working at Menzies?

Menzies is a very supportive place to work, I have a great team around me who make coming to work an enjoyable place to be. There are a huge number of opportunities to grow and develop, I have continually been supported to take on new roles and promotions throughout my career. As my role is Firmwide, it gives me a lot of opportunities to collaborate with people across all offices and service lines, and I enjoy building new relationships with colleagues.

Outside of work, I have built great friendships and enjoy attending various social events across the Firm, both within my office and the annual Firmwide Summer Ball.

We also have many opportunities to support local charities, via the annual Make A Difference Week and also smaller events such as coffee mornings or sponsored events.
