Our Better Place Commitment
As a Firm, we believe in pushing the boundaries to develop our team, act sustainably, and ultimately grow our business responsibly.
Our ‘Better Place’ commitment is an ethos of continuous improvement embedded in our culture. Our purpose is to make a difference and delight our clients. By actively nurturing a resilient and innovative workforce, an empowered community, a healthy planet, and the delivery of #BrighterThinking advice to our clients, we are more than just a business, we are a responsible business.
Our commitments are cemented within our four key goals which are:
- To delight our clients
- To develop and empower our people
- To live the Brighter Thinking brand
- To generate meaningful social value
Social Value – Structured Delivery and Measurement
Delivering meaningful Social Value is one of our four core responsible business goals. At Menzies LLP, Social Value is not an add-on to charitable activity; it is a structured, measurable and Firm-wide commitment embedded within our operational model.
We deliver Social Value through established programmes aligned to the National TOMs (Themes, Outcomes, Measures) framework. This ensures our impact is transparent, consistent across all offices and not contingent upon contract award.
All Social Value activity is recorded within a central Social Value Log. Each initiative is mapped to relevant TOMs measures and quantified using recognised proxy values to evidence attributable £ Social Value. This structured approach enables transparent reporting, contract-specific impact reporting and audit-ready governance oversight.
Beever and Struthers, now part of Menzies LLP, generated £1,310,725 in independently verified Social Value through the Planet Mark Certification, demonstrating our commitment to credible measurement and externally validated reporting.
CORE VALUES
It is also reflected through our core values of INSPIRE, INNOVATE, COLLABORATE and EMPATHISE, underpinned by our bedrock of integrity.
We are proud to be a responsible business with ambitious plans in place around DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), Charitable Giving and becoming carbon neutral. We are advancing these strategies to fully support the wellbeing and commitment of our entire network, starting with our people, and extending to our clients, suppliers, and communities – achieving this whilst supporting and preserving our natural environment.
Our values are supplemented with our four ‘Better Place’ strands: Be Yourself, Be Healthy, Be Compassionate and Be Green.
BE YOURSELF: DEIB
Our aim is to be reflective of the communities in which we work. The concept of Belonging was added to our strategy after creating an environment where our colleagues could have a voice and expression supported by the Firm.
Our strategy looks to encompass the employee lifecycle:
Recognise
We undertake surveys to measure and understand who we are and where we are as a business. It is imperative to understand this information to develop trust across the Firm and to optimise how we manage difference, helping us on the path to making Menzies a better place to work. It will also enable us to demonstrate and measure our progress.
Reward
We are proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer, ensuring fair pay for all colleagues and reinforcing our commitment to decent work, economic fairness and reduced inequalities.
We focus on diversity and inclusion data and tools such as the gender pay gap reporting so that all employees are rewarded fairly. Periodic reporting and evidence of resultant action is key. We are actively measuring other statistics with a view to reporting openly on our current position and our medium-term goals to achieve our equity goal.
Recruit
We are a Disability Confident Committed (Level 1) employer and actively promote inclusive recruitment practices, workplace accessibility and reasonable adjustments to ensure equal opportunity and progression for colleagues with disabilities.
We work with specialist recruitment agencies to ensure we are recruiting fairly and inclusively and accessing new or less represented talent pools.
Relate
We actively encourage discussion amongst our communities, reflecting on the importance of different voices being listened to and understood. We have encouraged and support Employee Resource Groups (“ERGs”) who create and run events and education pieces across our Firm to include all protected characteristics and more.
Clara MacDonald (headshot pic) an advocate for the Neurodiversity ERG says “When I joined Menzies as a trainee, a partner met with me and asked me to talk about myself and any accommodations I needed. He then asked me what more the Firm could be doing and, from that discussion, all trainees have access to professionals who can design recommendations for both the Firm and the individual. This is an example of neurodivergent colleagues designing best practice for neurodiversity in our business and it reinforces that Belonging is part of our culture.”
Retain
We participate annually in Social Mobility Week, delivering career insight sessions, mentoring and structured work experience placements across our offices to widen access to the profession and promote inclusive progression.
We deliver education for our partners and employees across many areas within DEIB, including unconscious bias, anti-racism, gender acumen, social mobility, and disability This contributes to making Menzies a place where all can thrive. We evaluate accessibility, including scrutinising our digital resources, to ensure that no one is disadvantaged at work. We deliver a meaningful and comprehensive wellbeing programme for our colleagues across all aspects of physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing.

BE COMPASSIONATE: CHARITABLE GIVING
There are a variety of ways in which we look to provide support through our Charitable Giving initiatives:
OUR COMMUNITIES
Our support of local communities and national charities is a core element of our drive to make the world around us more inclusive. After many years of ad hoc fundraising and support, we set up the Menzies Foundation (registered charity number 1136667) in 2010. Creating our own charity is something we are immensely proud of. The Foundation enables us to support local community organisations, contribute to national causes, and, in times of major global crises, provide urgent assistance through the Disasters Emergency Committee. This ensures we can respond quickly and meaningfully whenever people, locally or around the world that need help the most.
The Menzies Charitable Foundation works with voluntary services groups in the locality of Menzies offices and staff to identify organisations and/or individuals that may be in need of help.
HOMELESSNESS SUPPORT
Our Firm-wide initiatives also address poverty and homelessness through sustainable, dignity-based models, including corporate subscriptions to The Big Issue, supporting vendors through paid work and skills development opportunities.
WHIZZ KIDZ IMPACT UNDER FOUNDATION
Through the Menzies Charity Foundation, recent initiatives include an £11,000 award to Whizz Kidz, helping to fund mobility equipment for young wheelchair users. This support demonstrates meaningful, measurable community impact aligned with our Social Value framework
There are a variety of ways in which we look to provide support through our Charitable Giving initiatives:
Make a Difference Week
In July each year, we hold ‘Make a Difference Week,’ during which teams across the Firm support local organisations in practical and meaningful ways.
Funding Support for Individual Fundraising
Many of our staff and partners take part in a wide range of activities to raise money for causes that are meaningful to them. We recognise and value their commitment, and the Foundation is proud to support their efforts by making donations to these causes.
Local office support
Each office looks to support its at least one charity in the local community, helping to fund projects that result in tangible outcomes and real benefits to people in their neighbourhood.
National charitable days
We support a range of recognised charitable days across all our offices, including Wear A Hat Day for Brain Tumour Research, Wear It Pink for Breast Cancer Care, Movember for men’s cancer charities, and Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children.
Volunteering
Individual volunteering is encouraged across the Firm through our matching leave policy. We also proudly support the ICAEW’s RISE Initiative, which involves providing guidance and support to young people in schools and colleges. All volunteering hours and contributions of professional expertise are centrally recorded and incorporated into our Social Value measurement framework, ensuring transparent and accountable impact reporting
BE HEALTHY: FOSTERING PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
We realise that we must take effective action to support our teams to maintain a healthy mind and body. As an employer, it is essential for us to contribute what we can to ensure that we have a healthy, energised, and resilient team.
We take a holistic view of health and offer programmes to support physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as social and financial wellbeing, whilst continuously looking at new initiatives to enhance these programmes. We have qualified mental health first aiders in every office. We regularly share information and guidance on a variety of health topics, including managing stress, mental health awareness and how to support carers. We offer the flu jab to all colleagues and run a voluntary health check programme, offering employees a health MOT including physical checks, diet and exercise review and mental and wellbeing health check. We also arrange regular health-promotion and support webinars.
We continue to look at new ways to both support and incentivise our employees. We offer a flexible and agile working policy as standard. We are conscious that we have an active community of parents and caregivers, and we regularly review our benefits to ensure that everyone has the support and peace of mind they need to enjoy their work-life at Menzies.
BE GREEN – taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint, moving towards Net Zero
As a responsible business, we place particular focus on fostering a healthier environment through a reduction in natural-resource consumption.
With climate change, plastic pollution and other environmental threats being of major concern to all of us, we recognise that environmental guardianship is part of our responsibility. The Firm wishes to actively contribute to a healthier planet by taking positive action to reduce the impact of climate change and prioritising renewable solutions.
We are committed to making a positive difference to the environment with less reliance on paper and printing, presence in the office and travel between offices and to clients’ premises. We are enthusiastically embracing agile working and hybrid working.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and setting a positive example. As a National Firm in the UK, with eleven offices and more than 1,000 staff, we have set an ambitious goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035. We will align our work with Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) standards and pursue B Corp accreditation, reinforcing our commitment to balancing profit with purpose and embedding sustainability across everything we do.
Menzies is committed to reaching net zero by 2050 in alignment with the UK Government’s legal commitment to reach net zero by 2050. We are in the process of creating a 2025 carbon footprint for Scope 1, 2 and all relevant categories of Scope 3 in alignment with the Greenhous Gas Protocol to establish our base year and align ourselves with the Science Based Target initiative for a near-term target of at least 63% reductions across Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions by 2035.
Our Be Green strategy is how we turn environmental commitment into meaningful social value by balancing business growth with a healthy planet. As a significant energy user, we’re stepping up to tackle climate change by reducing our carbon footprint and pollution, with a clear focus on hitting Net Zero and transitioning to renewable energy. By embedding sustainability into our procurement and engaging our people in eco-friendly practices, we’re ensuring ethical supply chains and a fairer future for the next generation.
Environmental SDGs
Our environmental strategy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3 – Good Health & Well-Being
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth
- SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities & Communities
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
Under our Be Green commitments, we are focused on reducing our Scope 1, Scope 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions by 50% over the next three years and achieving Net Carbon Zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2027. We measure, record and report our emissions annually, ensuring progress is transparent and externally accountable.
Beever & Struthers (part of Menzies LLP) has achieved Planet Mark Business Certification for multiple consecutive years, demonstrating verified carbon measurement, reduction progress and stakeholder engagement under a recognised external sustainability standard.
In October 2025, we strengthened our ESG capability through the acquisition of Grain Sustainability, a specialist sustainability consultancy providing support across carbon footprinting, Net Zero roadmaps, materiality assessments, supply chain sustainability and sustainability reporting. This enhances both our internal environmental performance and our ability to support clients navigating sustainability requirements.
As a member of 1% for the Planet, the Menzies ESG service line contributes 1% of its revenue to environmental nonprofits.
OUR CLIENTS
Client relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We are always looking for the next service or innovation that will help our clients. All our clients have their own client relationship team led by an experienced adviser who oversees their affairs. Our relationship teams take responsibility for understanding clients’ needs, bringing the right specialists together and ensuring clients receive a consistently high quality of service.
We help clients navigate their personal, business, and financial challenges, helping them meet their goals. Through our teams of highly skilled individuals, we can best meet our clients’ needs and ensure they feel supported and ultimately delighted.
We really want to know what our clients think, which is why we speak to them regularly to gain their honest feedback. When we learn about things we could do better, we act swiftly to address this. We undertake an annual survey to understand feedback from clients on a central basis, which is then disseminated to each Relationship Partner/Director.
Regarding responsible business practices, we are very keen to talk to our clients and share experiences so that we navigate the journey together towards a more sustainable future. We commit to advancing those conversations and seeing where joint actions could amplify our success and impact.
OUR SUPPLIERS
We continually review our supply chain arrangements. We want to ensure that, in line with our own ESG (“environmental, social and corporate governance”) commitments, our suppliers are committed to similar values and are working towards net carbon zero and adhering to the Modern Slavery Act.
