Home- Insights- Press- Menzies in the media – September 2019

As part of Menzies commitment to sharing #BrighterThinking our teams of accounting and business advisors have been providing their opinions on some of the leading hot topics raised within some of the UK’s leading national, regional and specialist press titles.

Here follows a summary of Menzies in the media for September 2019.

Caterer, Licensee, Hotelier – 5th September 2019

Dave Gosling - Menzies AccountantPartner and Hospitality & Leisure specialist Dave Gosling explores how business owners can use cash flow management, KPIs, their people, technology and more to improve their grip on the businesses future.

“It is not unusual for business owners in the hospitality and leisure sector to struggle with finding time to consider their strategic approach and manage their businesses efficiently and effectively, but this is key to their long-term success.

Staying focused on areas such as cash management and forecasting, as well as making the most of staff potential, can help to de-risk the business and improve profits.”

Simon Underwood - Menzies AccountantFollowing further announcements from Debenhams regarding their CVA agreements, Simon Underwood comments on the store closures and the UK retail landscape.

“The outcome leaves Debenhams’ creditors firmly in the driving seat, and Mike Ashley out in the cold. Landlords are being forced to share in the pain of many high street retailers, as consumers change their shopping habits, and property rents are tumbling across the board. Based on the ruling, landlords need to start viewing CVA plans as a ‘market correction’ on the way to a fairer and more flexible rental system.”
