For many years, we have provided funding through the Menzies Charitable Foundation to help our communities by making donations to local worthwhile causes. Our policy has always been to support local causes and to fund projects that result in tangible outcomes and real benefits to the people in our communities.
We have never wanted to simply donate money to large charity funds. Many of our staff and partners already contribute personally to causes that are dear to them, and as a firm we recognise and support their commitment.
Instead, we support those individuals and organisations that do not have the profile or resources to attract regular fundraising and sponsorship. We want to donate money in a way that makes an immediate and real difference to someone’s life.
Here follows a summary of what we’ve managed to achieve and the wonderful efforts our staff have gone to.
Menzies Charitable Foundation Donations
The Menzies Charitable Foundation is a registered charity (number 1136667).
A £7,500 donation to Freemantles School
A school for children and young people with complex social communication needs. Their mission is to work together to challenge each individual pupil to achieve as much as they can in their emotional wellbeing, communication, social understanding, independence and functional academic progress.
A £7,500 donation to Disability Challengers
A charity whose mission is to provide truly inclusive, fun and safe places where all disabled children and young people can spend time with their friends, whilst offering a positive impact for families and the wider community.
A £7,500 donation to the White Lodge Centre
A charity that supports disabled children, young people and adults, families and carers in Surrey and the surrounding areas. This is achieved by providing high quality, innovative and individually planned services.
Denbies Half Marathon
16 Menzies employees from the Leatherhead Office ran the Denbies Half Marathon for ex-colleague Grace Dear who sadly passed away earlier this year following a battle with mental health. The team raised £16,000 (including gift aid) which will be donated to the The Grace Dear Foundation – a charity aiming to help young people talk about Mental Health as well as help them get back to work.
Woking and London Offices
Three Peaks Challenge
A total of 30 Menzies employees took on the challenge of climbing the UK’s three tallest peaks – Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales). After weeks of training, the team achieved their goal scaling all three peaks and raised a total of £3,638.25 (including gift aid).
All monies raised will be donated to the Menzies Charitable Foundation to support those individuals and organisations that do not have the profile or resources to attract regular fundraising and sponsorship.
A midnight walk
Setting off in Farnham, a plucky team of 30 Woking staff navigated their way through various historic locks and covered a total distance of 34km before reaching their final destination in Woking – all in the pitch black!
The sponsored midnight walk was in aid of CornerHouse Woking, a local safe house and support group for people suffering with mental health, raising over £2,900!
End of Year Tuckbox
In preparation for year-end, the Heathrow office opened a Tuckbox to see the team through the long evenings and early mornings. Selling chocolate, sweets and treats the initiative was in support of Riding for the Disabled.
This is a charity who organise horse and pony riding, carriage driving, vaulting, showjumping and hippotherapy activities for people with disabilities all over the UK.
Charity Film Night
The Heathrow team also settled down to a good movie in support of MS Therapy Centre Berkshire. Comfortable seats (including premium sofa seats) and refreshments ensured that the boardroom looked the part!
MS Therapy Centre Berkshire are based in Reading and have a fully equipped gym with specialist equipment, the only oxygen chamber open for people with MS in Berkshire, numerous therapy rooms, a small shop, plenty of parking and a beautiful garden to relax in. This is to help all that suffer with Multiple Sclerosis gain a better life.
Charity Pub Quiz
In our London office, quizzing was the name of the game as the team organised a charity Pub Quiz. The team raised £140 for the Menzies Charitable Foundation. In the past the Foundation has made an immediate and real difference to people’s lives having bought diagnostic equipment for local hospitals, a kidney dialysis machine, beds at a local community hospital and specialist equipment to improve the daily lives of people living with disabilities.
MacMillan Coffee Morning
Once thing Menzies is never short of is cake, and our #BrighterThinking bakers stepped up to the plate to deliver some INCREDIBLE cakes and bakes in support of MacMillan Cancer support’s biggest coffee morning.
Our Farnborough team threw down the quiz challenge gauntlet to the returning and eventual champions Penningtons Manches, hosting a charity quiz at Pine Ridge Golf Centre.
It was a nail biter of a finish as the 32 teams battled through rounds that included taste testing, name that tune and the infamous general knowledge!
The team raised over £1,000 for Creating Futures a charity for children and young people providing youth groups, after school groups, play provision and 1:1 support and education.
