Although the SDGs are not required to be followed by law, many large companies are prioritising specific goals and implementing them into their business operations. For example, the decent work & economic work and life on land goals are being prioritised universally in companies such as LEGO and Hilton Hotels.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are intended to be used as baseline for companies to use when conducting their operations. Businesses are being encouraged to think about how their day-to-day operations can contribute to the achievement of these global goals. There is a direct link between the Sustainable Development goal, climate action, and the Net Zero initiative. The SDG 13 has targets to be achieved by 2030, while the Net Zero initiative aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The SDG 13 is hoped to be a stepping stone to the Net Zero goal, with both initiatives working together to contribute to the global effort to combat climate change in the years to come.
