STATUTORY HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT WILL INCREASE IN OCTOBER 2007

07/09/2007

New employment legislation is being introduced by the Government in respect of statutory holiday entitlement.

Currently employees are entitled to 4 weeks or 20 days (if they work 5 days per week) which includes all bank holidays.

The new legislation increases this entitlement to 5.6 weeks holiday (28 days for anyone working 5 days per week).

The legislation is being introduced in 2 stages. From 1st October 2007 the entitlement rises to 4.8 weeks or 24 days. From 1st April 2009 the entitlement will rise to 5.6 weeks or 28 days.

The increases will be calculated proportionally depending upon when the leave year starts.

For companies who already give their employees 4 weeks or 20 days holiday, plus bank holidays, there will be no change.
