Leatherhead accountant wins national medal
04 August 2010

A senior manager at Surrey-based accountants Menzies LLP has achieved national distinction by winning a medal in the exams set by the UK’s leading taxation body. David Boyce was awarded the Avery Jones Medal by the Chartered Institute of Taxation for achieving the highest mark in the UK for the institute’s Application and Interaction paper.

David, who completed the Institute’s four tax papers in May, now qualifies as a Chartered Tax Adviser, the highest level of tax qualification possible in the UK. He joined Menzies, which specialises in advising owner-managed businesses, four years ago and advises clients on personal and business tax matters.

The firm takes on around 20 new trainee accountants every year, and runs an extensive ongoing training programme for its staff. Last year it put 117 students through six different accountancy and tax courses.

Also celebrating exam success at the firm’s Leatherhead office are manager Ian Hare who passed a paper on Inheritance Tax, and Tom Harrison who has passed two of his ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) papers and will take the final two in November 2010.

Andrew Hookway, Managing Partner of Menzies’ Leatherhead office, said: “We are delighted and wish to congratulate David, Ian and Tom on their success.”
