New holiday entitlement
18 February 2009

New legislation increasing employees' statutory holiday entitlement comes into force on 1 April 2009.

The legislation was introduced in two stages. The first was on 1 October 2007 when holiday entitlement rose to 4.8 weeks (24 days), including bank holidays.

The second stage, which comes into force from 1 April, raises the entitlement to 5.6 weeks (28 days), for anyone working five days per week, again including bank holidays. This applies to all employees.

The increase will be calculated proportionally from when the annual holiday year starts.

Organisations that already give their employees four weeks (20 days) holiday, plus bank holidays will see no change as a result of this legislation.
